Youngsan Theology refers to the development of the theology of Youngsan who has achieved the world’s largest revival in history, and it seeks to provide a theological foundation for constant church growth and discipleship training in order to continually expand the Holy Spirit Movement. Research on Youngsan Theology will provide big challenges and courage to pastors of the next generation to become spiritual global leaders of the 21st century.
When Youngsan planted the church in 1958, Youngsan emphasized faith in the cross of Jesus Christ in the times of despair and preached not on ultimate despair but on ultimate hope. Therefore, Youngsan Theology is a theology of hope, and this begins with the Jesus Christ's work of redemption through the cross, which saved mankind that could only face death due to sin and the curse. Also, Youngsan Theology preaches a personal walk and communication with God by recognizing and inviting the Holy Spirit into one’s life. Therefore, the Full Gospel faith that Youngsan advocated begins with the cross at Calvary and expands into faith in the fullness of the Holy Spirit, faith in the spreading of the Gospel to All the World, faith in the Good God of Blessing, faith in Christ who carries our diseases, faith in Christ who will return, and faith in sharing and serving.
The core of Youngsan Theology can be summarized into the Fivefold Gospel, the Threefold Blessing, and Fourth Dimensional Spirituality. The Fivefold Gospel is a “doctrine for Full Gospel faith,” and the Threefold Blessing refers to “a practical principle for applying the doctrine.” Fourth Dimensional Spirituality is a “spiritual training for the application of the doctrine and principle in one’s life.”
The Fivefold Gospel includes: the Gospel of Regeneration, the Gospel of the Fullness of Holy Spirit, the Gospel of Divine Healing, the Gospel of Blessing, and the Gospel of Advent. Like how 3 John 1:2 says “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” the Threefold Blessing refers to the blessing of the believers’ beings in the spirit, mind, and the body and the life within them.
Full Gospel faith always starts from the cross of Jesus Christ at Calvary. There is no way for the fallen man to be saved other than through faith in Jesus Christ as their savior.
Once a believer is forgiven of one’s sin and has entered into the grace of salvation, one must pursue faith in the fullness of the Holy Spirit. When one is filled with the Holy Spirit, one can live a victorious life through the help of the Holy Spirit.
The Great Commission given by Jesus commands us to share the gospel to all the world. The ultimate goal of Full Gospel faith follows the Great Commission to reach the ends of the earth. Therefore, anyone with Full Gospel faith would continuously share the gospel.
Full Gospel faith preaches God who is the creator of the heavens and the earth, the sovereign ruler of life and death, and God who wishes all his people to prosper.
2/3 of Jesus’ public ministry was that of healing. Full Gospel faith believes that Jesus is alive and involved in healing even today. Jesus atoned not only for our sins but also our diseases. Full Gospel faith believes that Jesus is still being gracious to his people and preaches this message.
Full Gospel faith firmly believes that Jesus who had ascended 2,000 years ago will return as prophesied in the Bible.
Jesus will return to this world with all sovereignty and power as the Scripture promises.
Faith in sharing refers to blessing the name of God, who blessed us first. It then shares the blessing with others.
Full Gospel faith is God-centered as well as concerned for the needs of others.
The foundation of the Fivefold Gospel is the Gospel of Salvation. Another word for salvation is regeneration.
Therefore, the Gospel of Salvation can also be stated as the Gospel of Regeneration.
Those who have been reborn must be baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit. When Christians are filled with the Holy Spirit, they become filled with power and can witness effectively. Furthermore, as the Spirit of God is holy, a Christian filled with the Holy Spirit can shed off the authority of sin and the curse to live in holiness.
According to the Bible, Jesus Christ was a great preacher who wept for cursed man and spread the Good News, a great teacher who taught his disciples, and a great healer who healed many of their physical ills (Matthew 4:23). As such, healing of the sick was a part of Christ's ministry, and it was a tremendous gift and blessing God provided to mankind.
Biblical blessing is not only concerned with the “way of heaven” but also with the “way of the earth.” God’s salvation includes the activities of both his “seeking” and “indwelling.” God is the fountain of all blessings and the source of life. It is biblical for Christians to seek and enjoy blessings that come from him.
The return of Christ is not some vague religious dream, but is an unalterable plan of God, the sincere promise of Christ, and is a very accurate history of a future event to come. The Old Testament centers on the prophecies of the coming Messiah, and he came when it was time. The New Testament is also centered on magnificent and clear facts about Christ’s return.
“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” (3 John 1:2)
The most important thing for us is the resurrection of our spirits. Neither religion nor holy sacraments can help in resurrecting our spirits. We must only accept Jesus Christ who was crucified and resurrected from the dead as our savior. We can be saved and enjoy spiritual blessing only if we do so.
If we believe in Jesus Christ and receive spiritual blessing, we will be in the midst of his blessing and our circumstances will be blessed. Circumstance, in this context, entails all activities and efforts done to sustain life. This is possible because Jesus Christ atoned for our sins as well as poverty and cursed circumstances.
Physical diseases and death brought by the fall of Adam has been completely restored by the atonement of Jesus. Furthermore, Jesus resurrected our bodies, and we have completely overcome our weaknesses and death and can enjoy eternal blessing.
God gave mankind the ability to think as the first factor to change the fourth dimension. The concept of thinking exists only in the fourth dimension because it does not have height nor width, nor is it visible. Thinking is infinite and eternal. Believers must change their thoughts following the teachings of the Bible. Then they will see creative miracles done by God.
The second factor that changes the fourth dimension is faith. Faith has the ability to change the third dimension using the fourth. Jesus said, “Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you” (Mt 9:92)” and “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” (Mk 9:23). Faith is something indispensable to everyone. Believers can influence the third dimension only through faith given by the Holy Spirit.
Another factor that influences the world is dreams. The Bible says “Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.“ (Prov 29:18). The dreams of one’s heart conquers and changes the person’s third dimension. A dream of the fourth dimension brings life to the third dimensional world. Change will occur in the midst of difficult circumstances as long as one has a sound dream. Death will be transformed into life, chaos into order, darkness into light, and poverty into abundance.
The fourth factor of the fourth dimension is words. Humans best express their fourth dimensional uniqueness by using words. The Bible says “you have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth” (Prov 6:2) and “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit” (Prov 18:21). These show how powerful words can be. Saying optimistic words can improve the third dimensional world, and vice versa.
